Published on March 07, The following are the notes for my speech, from which I deviated from time to time. It followed the first screening of the emotional and beautifully shot Before You Forget video, directed by Kori Reay-Mackey, to be posted in the near future. Thanks to all who came: It was quite a night! Acknowledgements Thank you to Lesley, Mailee and the Literature Centre team for hosting this event, and for being such supporters of those of us who create literature for young people. While Tegan has been part of an impressive list of group exhibitions, A Flower Each Month is her second solo show and an opportunity to show a diverse body of work. Across the works Tegan pushes her style – stripping imagery back to single, delicate forms and contrastingly occupying full bleed images with vibrant, dynamic patterns. Working across mixed mediums of painted, digital and sketched works, the pieces are unified by her signature raw, sketchy style.
Memories of admiring and picking flowers on neighbourhood walks with her walks with her Grandmother and mum inspired Tegan to further explore the relationship between people, patterns and colour. Her fondness and nostalgia for flowers translates to a colourful array of drawn, digital and painted works throughout the exhibition. Throughout A Flower Each Month, Tegan invites viewers to see which works they are naturally drawn to, curious to see whether they agree with the works that depict their designated flower or gemstone colour according to their birth month.

Lewes Farmers’ Market, one of the first in the UK, was started in the s by Common Cause Co-operative Ltd and is a popular re-invention of Lewes as a market town.
The Farmers’ Market takes place in pedestrianised Cliffe High Street on the first and third Saturdays of every month, with local food producers coming to sell their wares under covered market stalls. A weekly food market in the Lewes Market Tower was established in July by Transition Town Lewes to allow traders to sell local produce. In September , Lewes launched its own currency, the Lewes Pound , in an effort to increase trade within the town. Like the similar local currency in Totnes , the initiative is part of the Transition Towns movement.
The Lewes Pound and the Transition Towns movement have received criticism for a failure to address the needs of the wider Lewes population, especially lower socio-economic groups. December 29, by Galt 4 Comments Introduction The grain elevator seen here really stands out as unique and was in the early s a highly innovative design, the future of the Alberta grain industry. The Buffalo Sloped Bins BSB was the dawn of a bold new era, modern and efficient — it was the design that would eventually replace hundreds of outdated wooden grain elevators all over the province on the sleepy branchlines and busy mainlines.
Ultimately however, for a number of reasons, it entered into the era when the grain industry was in a state of flux with to many old grain elevators, on-going transportation issues with the railways, some construction problems with a new design, and an economic recession all played a part so that in the end only a few were built. Background on the Buffalos From the early s to the late early s, the wood grain elevator ruled the roost in Alberta and in fact all over western Canada.
A few years of bumper crops and high grain prices kept the wooden elevators busy and added well to the profits of the Pool. With some of the additional profit, AWP decided to do some design work with an engineer from Edmonton, by the name of Klaus U.

Here’s an excerpt from our Word of the Year announcement in The national debate can arguably be summarized by the question: In the past two years, has there been enough change? Has there been too much? Meanwhile, many Americans continue to face change in their homes, bank accounts and jobs. Only time will tell if the latest wave of change Americans voted for in the midterm elections will result in a negative or positive outcome.
